Clothing Repairment App

Challenge

The project centered around the theme "Prototypes for Humanity," an annual event highlighting the innovation and creativity of university students in projects aimed at positively impacting humanity. My project partner and I opted to concentrate on sustainability, specifically exploring ways to prolong the lifespan of garments.

Process

The project involved conducting interviews, from which we created an affinity diagram. Drawing insights from this diagram, we extracted three main user requirements for our prototype:

  • The user seeks a solution that increases confidence when repairing loved and valuable clothing.

  • The user desires an effortless clothing repair process with instructions that are clear, efficient, and tailored to their problem.

  • The user requires assistance with complex clothing repairs, including blouses, knitted items, and zippers.

To evaluate the prototype, users engaged in various scenarios, vocalizing their thoughts throughout the process. Subsequently, brief interviews were conducted, leading to modifications in the prototype. One significant alteration involved simplifying the app to a single page from its original three-page design.

Solution

We developed an application that provides users with personalized instructions for repairing specific garments. By simply taking a photo of the damaged item, users receive step-by-step guidance on the repair process or can engage in a supportive chat with our AI companion, Arel. Try the prototype here!
